Welcome to Quincy Youth Football and Cheer! We are excited you are showing interest in our flag football program and hope you find this basic information helpful! Feel free to reach out with any questions!
- Season runs August - End of October
- We understand that kids play many sports. If you plan on playing flag football and another sport during the fall please let us know. We will help workout a practice schedule.
- Practices are typically Wednesdays 5:30 - 6:30pm at Pageant Field and adjust as we approach darker evenings.
- We typically compete in 8 regular season games, with a jamboree at the end of the season.
- Teams are broken up into age groups. The more kids that play the more age groups we will have. Typically they are broken into two groups K - 2 and 3 - 5, but if we have higher numbers in certain groups then we may split into K, 1, 2, 3...
- Flag football is meant to teach fundamentals and to have fun. While our program does not keep score for games, kids are naturally competitive and will tally up touchdowns on their own.
- Players should arrive to practice on time. It is difficult to start practices without all of our players. Please notify your coach in advance if you will not be attending so they can adjust the practice plan accordingly.
- Players must bring their own water to practices and games.
- Adults do not have to stay at the field for practice but must arrive promptly for pick up after practice.
Game Day:
- Every player is expected to arrive at the field and ready to warm up 15 minutes prior to game time.
- The game schedule will be listed on our site by late August.
- Coaches will send out messages via the team app by Friday reminding families of anything they need to know for game day. (Color jersey, field location, time)
- Games will alternate between Saturdays and Sundays based on when out tackle football games are home and away. When our tackle teams are home we will play on Saturday at Faxon Field. When the tackle teams are away we will play on Sunday at Veterans Memorial Stadium. We play at the stadium as often as possible to give the kids that feeling of a big league experience whenever we can.
Equipment and Uniforms:
We provide the following
Game Rules:
- 7v7
- 4 quarters
- Each team gets the ball for 7 minutes of offense per quarter (Quarter is 14 minutes).
- It is a 7-minute running clock. The goal is to get in as many plays as possible during that time. The clock only stops for an injury.
- There is a brief break between quarters and a 5-minute break at the half.
- Offense starts at the 40-yard line.
- Offense keeps running plays until time is up. If there is a turnover offense returns to the 40 yard line.
- Fumbles are immediately called dead for safety reasons.
- Interceptions can be returned to the 40 for a defensive TD.If there is a touchdown the offense returns to the 40 yard line.
- Teams typically run a 3 player front but this is not required.
- There does need to be a center to snap the ball.
- No score is kept except during the yearend jamboree.
- We do not call penalties. This is a learning experience, so we will remind players when they break the rules. Repeat offenders may be pulled from the game for a period of time.
- Hurry up offense is not allowed. Teams must huddle before each play.
- No blocking
- No flag guard/blocking
- No tackling
- No pass rush
- QB cannot run with the ball.
- Players are considered down where the flag was pulled or if their knee hits the ground.
Players can wear cleats, but it is not mandatory. If you buy cleats, we recommend turf vs plug cleats. Though flag football is a non-contact sport, there is incidental contact, and some families also choose to get mouth guards.
If you would like to be volunteer, please register through the Volunteer tab on our website. We can always use some extra support, especially coaches. You don't need to know a lot about football. We will provide you with a playbook and practice guide to get started. Join in. It's a lot of fun!
