Yes. We do offer financial assistance. We have limited resources, so the requests are met on a first come, first serve basis. Unless there are extraordinary circumstances, all families will be asked to pay some portion of the registration fee. See our Financial Assistance page on this website for more details.
Yes. We provide all of the safety equipment. For tackle football this includes a helmet, mouth guard, shoulder pads, jerseys and pants. Though we will provide padded pants, we ask that parent purchase a 5 or 7 pad girdle instead. They provide more flexibility and can be found in most sporting goods stores or online. You will also need to purchase cleats. We do not provide cups. They are optional.
Cheerleaders are given a uniform. They are required to purchase cheer sneakers and cheerleader briefs that are worn under the skirt.
Flag football does not require safety gear. Parents can opt to purchase a mouth guard. Cleats or sneakers are fine for flag.
See our separate practice and game schedule tabs on this website for details.
While you may see lots of news about injuries in the NFL or collegiate levels, youth football and cheer are statistically similar to other sports and activities for injury. Our program spends many hours in practice before we play our first game or have our first competition. This is to ensure the kids are prepared. We are one of the few sports where our coaches go through several hours of safety training annually and must be certified to coach. We are also one of the only youth sports that has a professional trainer or EMT at every game. We take these extra steps because safety is our number one priority.
No. Bay State AYF Football and Cheer rules require us to keep kids in specific age and grade groups. In Cheer the teams are broken out into 4 groups. U8, U10, U12, and U14. "U" stands for "Under".
In football all of the teams are grade based. So 5th grade plays against 5th grade, etc. We don't allow older teams to play younger teams.
Every child will cheer or play in every game. There are different rules for tackle, flag and cheer. In general, cheerleaders will participate 100% of the time and flag players will play in 50% or more of the downs. Tackle is a sliding guide based on the number of players on the team. Children may be held from participation for their own safety, due a lack of practice participation or other factors.
Practices typically start the end of July. The first game is the weekend after Labor Day.
Yes. We are a non profit, 501 C3 organization. Additionally, all members of the organization are 100% volunteers. The President, Treasurer, Board Members and Coaches work for free. They do it for the kids of Quincy and for the love of the game. All proceeds from registration and fundraising go directly back into the program.
Absolutely! Football and Cheerleading are expensive sports. We keep registration fees as low as possible through various fundraising efforts through the year. Some of these efforts include player and family participation. Other efforts depend upon personal and corporate donations from the community. To donate to the program you can reach out to us by email at info@qyfca.com or send us a check at QYFCA, PO BOX 133, Quincy , MA 02171.
Definitely! We have a number of roles that require zero knowledge of the game. We also have assistant coaching roles for those that know the fundamentals but have never coached before. If you are interested in volunteering, please register through the Volunteer Registration tab on our site. All Team Coordinators, Coaches and Board Members must pass a background check to participate. Registering to volunteer is not an automatic guarantee of a position on the team. Besides the background check, we do look at other factors such as prior team interactions when deciding whether an adult will be allowed to participate. Our goal is to find individuals that are going to represent the organization in a positive way. If you have questions, please email us at info@qyfca.com.
